5 day Okavango. Moremi Classic Fly-in Safari, Botswana

Day 1: Maun, Botswana

On arrival in Maun and after clearing customs and immigration, you will be met by a representative and transferred to a waiting light aircraft for an air transfer to Chitabe Camp for two nights on a Fully Inclusive basis. Chitabe Camp is a luxurious eight-roomed, tented camp built on one of the most beautiful islands in the Okavango Delta. It is situated in a private area in the south east of the Okavango Delta, which borders the Moremi Game Reserve. The Chitabe area is a combination of open floodplains, wooded islands and lagoons - which sets the scene for a wide variety of wildlife. 

Accommodation consists of eight spacious East African style tents built on elevated wooden decks, beneath a lush tree canopy. Each tented room has en-suite facilities with flush toilets and both outdoor and indoor showers. Hot showers are guaranteed anytime of day or night. The thatched dining area, lounge and pub are also raised on decks overlooking the surrounding flood plains.

A pool allows guests to cool off from the heat of the day. Activities consist of day and night game drives in open 4x4 vehicles accompanied by an experienced guide. Nature walks, tailor made to suit the guests, are also offered. Game viewing is good, and includes Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Reedbuck, Giraffe, Impala, Zebra, Buffalo and Hippo. Depending on the time of year, Wild Dogs are also resident in the area. Night drives can be very rewarding, with good sightings of the rarer nocturnal animals.

One of the biggest assets Chitabe has to offer is its friendly and outstanding staff. Most of the staff working at Chitabe have been there since its inception seven years ago and it is this pride and loyalty that gives Chitabe its amazing atmosphere. It is without a doubt the 'Soul of the Delta' and we would like to invite you to experience our little oasis. Access into the Chitabe area is only by aircraft.

Day 3

At a time specified by the camp staff, you will be taken to the airstrip for a light aircraft transfer to Little Vumbura for two nights on a Fully Inclusive basis. Little Vumbura is a beautiful six roomed tented camp situated to the north of Mombo in a private reserve bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta. Little Vumbura offers both water and land activities, as well as walks for those who are keen. Mekoros (dug-out canoes) traverse the flood plains under the guidance of our experienced polers.

Open 4x4 Land Rovers allow guests to get close to animals in the savannah areas. However for much of 2004, this activity will be limited due to the high annual flood waters in the Okavango.  For much of the March to October period, you will be boating to dry land and only board the game viewing vehicles there. Guests usually have the opportunity to see Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Sable and Buffalo, along with all the plains game, providing an excellent all round game experience in this remote corner of the Okavango.

Walks (on request basis only) around the islands give guests the opportunity to enjoy Africa from a different perspective. The tented rooms are large and comfortably appointed, with an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, a shower, and flush toilet - and an outside shower under the stars. The camp has a plunge pool too. Access into this area is only by aircraft and if the water levels are high in winter, a mokoro trip and/or a boat will transfer guests to camp.

Day 5

At a time specified by the camp staff, you will be taken to the airstrip for a light aircraft transfer to Maun.

Below is only a suggestion as to what may happen in camp - as daily wildlife sightings tend to throw the schedule right out of schedule.

Summer/Winter:

05h00/06h00 - Wake up call. Light continental breakfast consisting of cereals, tea/coffee/juices and pastries to be served in the dining area.

05h30/06h30 - Depart on morning activity, returning to camp at approximately 10h00.

10h00/11h00 - Brunch will be served, this will consist of a selection of breakfast and lunch dishes.

From now until afternoon tea, guests will be at leisure. Catching up on reading in the library, relaxing by the pool, talks, short nature and bird walks are all options.

16h00/15h00 - Afternoon tea will be served - this will consist of a selection of sweet and savoury snacks.

16h30/15h30 - Depart on afternoon game viewing activity - drinks and snacks will be served for sundowners during the course of the activity.

19h30/19h00 - Return to camp (but could be later if good game sightings).

20h00/19h30 - Pre-dinner drinks and snacks are served in the lounge.

20h30/20h00 - Three course dinner - generally speaking the starter and desert is served, whilst the main course is buffet style.

21h30/21h00 - Coffee and liqueurs will be served at the campfire.
